Tis an Irish Dancer

St. Patrick’s Day is this coming weekend and if you know me, you know this day is bigger and better than Valentines……easy. I’ve always had a soft spot for my Irish heritage and all things Ireland. So it was a thrill to photograph Aubrey. She’s oozes talent and her love for Irish dance show’s in her commitment. She’s been dancing since she was four year’s old and now at age 10 she is qualified for 2013 Nationals. Last year she placed 32nd in the Mid-American Oireachtas. She has been dancing under the direction of Muireann Ni Chiara who started  Millennium Academy of Irish Dance when she came to the states from Ireland. She along with Katie Jacobsen instruct children from as young as 3 year’s old and up.
Year’s ago I was into Irish Dancing and had only wished I’d known about it at a younger age. I got out of it due to a bum ankle, but started back up this past fall after enrolling our son in one of the classes.  He’s having a blast and together we help each other with learning the moves. It’s a work out, but it’s fulfilling and I enjoy meeting new people and just having some fun.The attire of an Irish dancer can range from simple to very ornate. For competitions, you will see a wide range of designs and colors. They are not a  cheap dress by any means, but given the talent that takes getting to competition standards, it’s worth every dollar spent. In Irish Dance there is the soft shoe and hard shoe. Dancer’s seem to just glide through the air when in soft shoes and yet can stomp with force in their hard shoes. Each shoe offer’s something different per dance. I had a great time watching as Aubrey did her dancing. She loves to do the Slip Jig and Treble Jig. She feels a sense of peace when she is dancing. She is very talented as well in singing. This girl has a lot going for her.If you are interested in taking classes to learn Irish Dance, Millennium Academy of Irish Dance offers two locations, in Granville and Worthington. You can find more information right here on their website. http://www.millenniumirishdance.com/index.html  Be sure to check them out this weekend at The Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday and The Columbus St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday.
