I love a good overcast day when shooting. This day in particular was perfect. It allowed things to be cooler and a bit less squinting. Lori and Josh and their fam, Evan, Ella and Emma enjoyed the views of Bryn Du Mansion.
Ella looks up to her big sister. It’s cute how she wants to be just like Emma, with adding her own flair.
It was a rather rough (no pun intended) day for Evan. He’s not a fan of dog’s, an no matter how hard we tried, we kept having dog’s nearby us. It was upsetting for him and heartbreaking for me cause I was loosing his attention for photos. It was tough, but we got through it in the end. I missed that genuine Evan smile.
The kid’s have a great sense of humor, photo bombing mom and dad’s photo. Gotta keep that in the family album!
How cute is Lindsey, celebrating her 1st birthday with a big bright pink balloon. Lindsey is the daughter of a past Bride and Groom of mine, Carrie and Jason. She’s the perfect combination of her parents. Full of smiles and that adorable wrinkled up nose.
Jason and Carrie didn’t have to do much to get smiles from Lindsey. She’s a very sweet baby.
One year old’s are always a question of how will the shoot go, some are active, some don’t want to sit still. Some don’t want to co-operate. Some like Lindsey were content and happy go lucky. She didn’t fuss, she was happy and attentive. She is clearly the pride and joy of her parents. What a blessing she is.
Lindsey was happy seeing the woods all around her, checking things out. The innocence of a child, the unknown before them.
A quick moment alone for Carrie and Jason, the sun set back lighting them.
You made it through your first year of parenthood with flying colors. So many more exciting steps ahead as Lindsey continues to grow. Happy 1st Birthday!!
When you work with couples, from capturing their engagement, to their fabulous wedding and a few other sessions with them, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t do a happy dance when they announced their first pregnancy. Earlier this spring, Jonathan and Christina came to Ohio an we met up for their maternity session. When they asked if I’d come to Michigan to shoot their newborn photos, I wasn’t about to miss out on this. It made for another get-a-way in beautiful Michigan to their home in the area of Midland. We made our travels rain free up until about five minutes before landing on their doorstep to a complete down pour. They introduced us to Elliott and Owen.
This is Owen. Mom and Dad call him Mr. Grunts cause he well grunts a lot and squirms. He’s a laid back dude.
Elliott is called Sir Planks from his parents cause he is constantly stretching his body straight out, an hold his head high.
They are changing so fast already. Each day they show their own personalities shining through.
They choose a nautical theme for the boy’s room and it’s so fitting with the waters that surround them.
We learned they were only happy if they were held or swaddled tightly. Oh how they reel you in from the start. They manage to melt the hearts of parents so easy.
Elliott and Owen are Fraternal twins. It’ll be interesting to see the changes in them as they get a little older. Right now they have painted their nail’s to tell them apart. Mom and Dad took no time in getting used to their sweet faces.
The downpour eventually stopped and we went into Christina and Jonathan’s lush back yard for some photo’s with the boy’s.
I have to say, Christina and Jonathan seemed so at ease with the boy’s. They seemed to have it down working around feedings and changes an off the wall sleep patterns. I’m sure they are making adjustments, but they are doing wonderfully for first timers.
The boy’s are giving more smiles. They are getting more hour’s of sleep, hopefully Mom and Dad too. They enjoy looking out the windows and lights. Oh just wait until Christmas!
So this shoot consisted of two days. The first day they just were not wanting to sleep, even though they were feeding frequently. If one would cry, it would wake the other. I didn’t want to go all that way and not get the shots I’d hoped for. So day two we tried again. They just were not having it, they were fussing and not sleeping. An then I just went with what they gave me, this is after all life. I laugh and see them in the future re-shooting some of these images as they are older.
And so it begins!
Christina returns to work in a week and I’m sure it’ll be hard on her leaving these two precious guy’s, but Jonathan will be caring for them, so they are in good hands. I’m so glad we got a chance to meet the new additions. It’s been so much fun working with you two over the past couple of year’s. I look forward to seeing the boy’s as they grow. Best wishes and Congratulations again!
About two year’s ago, a friend’s mom gifted me with this awesome vintage style pram in the hopes of me using it for a shoot. I kept it in our garage, walking by it daily, thinking of using it, but it just never was the ‘right one’ so to speak. So I just left it in there among my other props and such. Fast forward two summer’s later and we are having a garage sale at our house. This family showed up with this baby with these mesmerizing eyes and it came to me, this is the one. So I spoke with Lila’s mom Kristi and wa-la, here is the shoot!
In prepping for the shoot, I explained my vision to Kristi and before I even finished, she was right with me. She knew what I was going for and had the perfect attire.
Lila’s dress was hand made by her Great-Great Aunt, and was worn by her Grandfather Paul when he was brought home from the hospital in August of 1944. The charm heart necklace was worn by her Great-Great Grandmother, a likely piece from the 1800’s. Her 93 year old Great-Grandmother Lila (her namesake) made the charm into a necklace for Lila Mae.
People, I am not even lying, those eye’s are that dramatic, there is NO special editing to her sweet face.
Lila is 8 month’s old and was such a willing baby. She didn’t fuss, she just gave me lots of smiles. I thought for sure she’d not take to the hat, but she seemed to like it. For once a baby that tolerated a hat.
And so came the vision to life….that makes me smile.
A little story about the hat. So I was out antiquing one day and I came across this hat. It was one of those instant things where I had to get it. I could see her wearing it, but said person shopping with me didn’t agree, didn’t see it. This person couldn’t see past it being an adult hat. Let me just tell you, I did a little happy dance when I put it on her. She didn’t mind the hat at all, an it worked perfectly for her. It’s those moments I go with my gut that I love, everything pans out.
Lila’s parent’s Bryan and Kristi have one special baby girl.
Lila had a quick change of clothes, and the smiles kept on coming. I’ve never worked with such a happy baby before.
Lila Mae, you were a doll baby and I’m so glad to have met you and your family in such a unique way.
I love this time of year, the flowers are vibrant, the crops are full, fall is just around the corner…..the warm summer sun upon our skin. I’m soaking it in. I met up with this family at their home for part of their session. Holly and her husband, David along with their children, Madison, Mason and Megan.
Madison an her sense of style…she was rocking it.
I had the pleasure of shooting Mason’s senior portraits the year prior. It’s great getting to work with past clients again.
Megan was quite and reserved but a beauty just like her sister.
I love the bond of sisters.
Right behind their home, over several acres of land lies the home of Holly’s parents. So we finished the session on Roger and Deborah’s property.
A large fallen tree lies off in the woods of their property and they wanted to incorporate it into the photos. What a great little prop if you will. Megan and Mason were quick to jump on top of it.
Don’t they make a handsome family!
A man and his grandson…..the memories they will make over the year’s and that strong bond.
Holly and David have a wonderful family, and I’m glad to have been able to work with them again.
Mason is a lot of fun to work with…he’s not one of those guy’s I have to give a lot of direction too. Always refreshing.
Madison had a change of clothes and showed her sense of style. A beauty inside and out. And Megan, an animal lover. Who doesn’t love to cuddle with the pets!.
It’s always fun to work with the extended family. Making those memories and creating images for year’s to come. Those grand babies are growing and moving on fast. Cherish these moments.
